This course will introduce the transnational theoretical framework with a focus on three major theories, including diaspora, Sinophone, and world literature. We will read the existing scholarship in the English-speaking world to understand how scholars in the field have explored related topics and adopted these theories in studying Taiwan literature, transnational literature, and Sinophone cinema.

By the end of the course, students are expected to (1) be able to read and write academic articles in English, (2) have sufficient knowledge of three assigned theories and their core concepts, (3) adopt these theories in studying Taiwan literature and culture, (4) explore the connection between Taiwan literature and world literature, (5) envision new perspectives and approaches to study Taiwan literature.
